Listening
Activities - Esl Lab
There is one thing that people have to focus
when they start learning a new language: listening!!!
When you take lessons (online, alone or at a language school with a regular
teacher) communicating comes soon. Speaking is one of the first abilities to be
developed, but listening is a little bit more complicated. One of my students indicated
this site and I decided to use (and evaluate) it. Well, it’s awesome! There are
lots of activities and it’s quite simple to use. I recommend!
Videos - YouTube
You know, time is something very important to
students. Mainly if they are adults, with all the things they have to do (working,
going to the university, dating and having a social life – it isn’t easy!). A
really nice source of videos with actual data, native/foreigner speakers and
good info is the YouTube. I love seeing trailers and interviews. I also go
online to see the TED videos, some international pranks and parodies.
Urban
Language - Dictionary
The “by-the-book” English used in many
classrooms is not something we see all around. I believe that if you comprehend
(and use) different words from those you see in your book, your vocabulary will
be more complete and more natural. (and your teachers will be mesmerized!!!)
Words and more words - Dictionary
Having a good dictionary by your side is the
best help ever! This online dictionary is a very nice and complete one. And they
also have an app for iPhone (I haven’t tried to download that for Android…yet).
Chatting
around to improve fluency! - Livemocha
The best way to learn a language is practicing…NO
DOUBT! I’ve used the chat of www.livemocha.com
for a very long time to practice French and Spanish (very good indeed!), www.chatroulette.com (which is not a
free-sex-site anymore…shame!) and a less famous one, www.talknchat.com. Pay attention and stick
to general questions. The main purpose is practicing the language, not giving a lot of personal information about you.
See you around,
Dio
